Our Story

Bonny + Read has always been about exceeding expectations.

Perhaps this tireless dedication stems from the tale behind the restaurant's name — the true story of fierce pirate queens, Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

Or perhaps it stems from a shared passion for scratch cooking and seafood mastery. Gourmet land-locked seafood is certainly no easy task, and it calls for a higher level of passion, skill, and patience. That’s why Bonny & Read is committed to quality at every turn. All of our seafood is shipped to us from eco-conscious Seattle Fish Co., and comes stamped with reputable certifications, including the Monterey Bay Aquarium certification and the Marine Stewardship Council.

But it’s not just our seafood that’s guaranteed to impress. From our handmade crackers to our premium steaks to our stimulating cocktails, all of our gourmet bites and beverages are stamped with the Bonny & Read seal of approval. We keep our standards high while keeping our prices low so you can experience a little taste of luxury on a weekly basis.

Bonny & Read began in the mind and heart of Joe Campana in 2014 after he realized the need for quality seafood in Colorado Springs. Campana hails from Florida and Massachusetts, where seafood options are abundant. He quickly realized his vision for gourmet land-locked seafood cuisine, and the opening of Bonny & Read was quick to follow — becoming the first to bring fresh seafood to the Springs.

Since 2011, Campana has opened several other successful sister restaurants, including the Rabbit Hole (an eclectic New American eatery) SuperNova (arcade), Cork & Cask (a Victorian-style wine and whiskey bar), Shame & Regret (an edgy back-alley bar), and STIR Coffee & Cocktails (a neighborhood bar located in the Old North End).

“This is one of my favorite restaurants in Colorado Springs for seafood. Coming from Maine I am very choosy and Bonny and Read has always come through. I would highly recommend the halibut as an entree and the lobster corn chowder is fantastic. The happy hour is fantastic with some great apps and wine at very fair prices. The staff is always great!”
